The Hughes' are young, aggressive and untouchable film-makers who intend to show you the real world, and do it with style. There's tons of crude humor, tons of profanity, tons of explicit sexual references and even some mock drug use. The Hughes brothers allow you, as a member of the audience, to judge for yourself on both perspectives and hear each of their characters out; it is because of this even-handed approach that we see that Caine's point, while holding weight, also shows the cyclical pattern of young black men getting incarcerated or killed at a young age due to violent crime or the solicitation of drugs, and we understand Ronnie's protectiveness as a parent, but wonder if that approach is also just buying time for another funeral. Of course everyone won't get this movie.
Just about the whole movie operates on this level, and for this reason has become one of my favorite comedies. The movie shows us the road that both, including there friends do in this strange world of drugs, violence and poverty. She pours Kool-Aid on his stomach and sucks it off, sprinkles hot government cheese on his chest and it concludes with him sucking hot sauce off her crusty toes.
